Local Students Receive College Honors

Four local students, all of Chattanooga, were among the over 6,000 students awarded degrees during The University of Alabama's spring 2025 commencement ceremonies at Coleman Coliseum. The students include: Sarah DeLay, who received a master of fine arts degree; James Ezell, who received a master of business administration degree, Micah Hodes, who received a master of accountancy degree, and Kipton Tugman, who received a master of arts degree.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College is proud to announce the students on the President’s and Dean’s Lists for the 2025 spring semester.

To be eligible for the President’s List, the student must maintain a GPA of 3.8 or higher during the semester with a course load of at least 12 credit hours. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, the student must maintain a GPA of 3.5 to 3.79 during the semester with a course load of at least 12 credit hours.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College provides quality workforce education to the citizens of northwest Georgia. Students have the opportunity to earn an associate degree, diploma or a certificate in aviation, business, health, industrial or public service career paths. This past year, 13,775 people benefited from GNTC’s credit and noncredit programs. GNTC has an annual credit enrollment of 8,836 students and an additional enrollment of 4,939 people through adult education, continuing education, business and industry training and Georgia Quick Start.

Lincoln Memorial University has announced the Dean's List for the spring semester for 2025. Over 660 undergraduates were recognized for achieving high academic honors. To be placed on Dean's List, the student must be a full-time undergraduate and have a 3.5 or higher grade-point-average for the semester.

Ohio University Chaddock + Morrow College of Fine Arts student Olivia Marks, of Chattanooga, has been named to OHIO's Spring 2025 Dean's List. The Dean's List recognizes undergraduate students who complete a particular semester with a GPA between 3.5 and 3.999 with a minimum of 12 credit hours attempted for letter grades that are used to calculate GPA.

Aarav Amin of Chattanooga (37421) was recently named to the Spring 2025 President's List at Georgia State University.

To be eligible for the President's List, degree-seeking students must have earned a GPA of at least 4.0 for a minimum of nine semester hours of academic credit taken at Georgia State during the fall or spring term with no incompletes for the semester. Eligible students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all classes taken at Georgia State.

Wofford College provost Dr. Timothy Schmitz has announced Dean's List students for the spring semester.

A member of the University System of Georgia, Dalton State College has more than 5,000 students in a full range of bachelor's degree programs, targeted associate degrees and career certificate programs. Dalton State College has campuses in Dalton and Ellijay.

Bree Brantley of Chattanooga was named to the Western Carolina University Spring 2025 Chancellor's List. Ms. Brantley was among more than 2,900 students to achieve this honor. To qualify for the Chancellor's List, students must earn a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Students named to the Chancellor's List are also named to the Dean's List.

Chattanooga native Caleb Hopper has been named a Haslam Leadership Scholar at UTK. Established in 2008, the Haslam Leadership Scholars program honors the Haslam family's legacy of developing community-focused and intellectually gifted young leaders. Participants receive an endowed scholarship that covers tuition, fees, and room and board as well as a paid internship and a study abroad experience, with the intention to attract, cultivate and retain future Tennessee leaders. Mr. Hopper plans to major in industrial engineering. He is an Eagle Scout, president of his school’s student government association, and is captain of multiple school and club soccer teams, among other honors and activities.

Chattanooga native Triya Patel has been awarded a Gilman Scholarship by the U.S. Department of State to study abroad. Ms. Patel is one of 25 UT students who received the scholarship this year, comprising the second-largest class in the university's history. Ms. Patel is a first-year student studying biochemistry with a minor in public health. She will study abroad in Florence, Italy, where she will study global health and Italian culture while furthering her academic focus in biochemistry and public health. The experience will enhance her understanding of international healthcare systems and cultural competence as she prepares for a career in medicine.

"I’m incredibly honored for this opportunity to study abroad in Florence, where I’ll gain new perspectives on global health and culture that will shape my journey toward becoming a compassionate and culturally aware physician," said Ms. Patel. "Representing UT abroad is an honor, and I’m excited to grow both personally and professionally through this experience."

Samuel Khoury of Chattanooga, was named to the Dean's Honor List at Cedarville University for Spring 2025. This recognition requires the student to obtain a 3.75 GPA or higher for the semester and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Cedarville University, an evangelical Christian institution in southwest Ohio, offers undergraduate and graduate programs across arts, sciences, and professional fields. With 6,384 students, it ranks among Ohio's largest private universities and is recognized by the Wall Street Journal as being among the nation's top three evangelical universities.

Berry College announces The Dean's List honors students who posted an academic average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale while carrying a class load of at least 12 hours during the semester, which include five local students. The students include Skye Albee, Kaylee Crook, Mia Cutler, Mackenzie Grisar and Ashley Young, all of Chattanooga.

Luke Colvin of Chattanooga was named to the dean's list at Olivet Nazarene University during the spring 2025 semester. To qualify for inclusion on the dean's list, a student must have been enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and must have attained a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale.

Madison Mikeska of Chattanooga graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin in spring 2025. Ms. Mikeska was one of more than 9,000 students who received an undergraduate, master's or doctoral degree.

Philip and Marilyn Mathis Scholarships were presented to three Middle Tennessee State University Honors students this year, including Emily Callison, a biochemistry major, from Chattanooga.

Madesen C'erra Holman of Chattanooga has been named to the Dean's List at Jacksonville State University for outstanding academic performance over the Spring 2025 semester.

Christopher Barnett of Chattanooga graduated from Bob Jones University with a BS in criminal justice.

Jackson Shutters of Chattanooga has been named to the President's Honor Roll at the University of North Georgia for achieving a 4.0 grade point average during spring 2025.
