Senior leadership goes a long way and Chattanooga Christian seniors Allen Duble and Martin Trimiew displayed it Thursday night with Trimiew scoring two goals and Duble finishing with two assists in the 3-1 win over Franklin Road Academy.
Not only is Trimiew a senior with four years of soccer experience, but he already has one state championship after leading the CCS basketball team to their first-ever title. Trimiew will play basketball for Division III Wheaton College next year.
But this game is on the field and Trimiew's creative play and jumping ability are hard to stop.
Trimiew found the net at the 18:00 mark when Duble beat his man on the left side and crossed the ball to 6' 4" Trimiew who redirected the ball with his head past FRA keeper Jon Wiggs.
In the 28th minute, Toby Kellogg's head was on the receiving end of a Duble pass, this time off a corner kick. Kellogg's goal gave CCS a 2-0 lead. The Chargers kept the pressure on for the remainder of the half but the half ended 2-0.
CCS got another goal 12 minutes into the second half once again by Trimiew assisted by Drew Courtney.
Franklin Road Academy got their goal with 19:00 left in the game. Brad Whitlock redirected a corner kick back to Kyle Young who took the shot. FRA made some good attempts in the final minutes but could not score. The game ended 3-1.
CCS outshot FRA 12-2.
After the game, CCS coach David Stanton was pleased with his team. "We seemed to possess the ball well tonight. We changed directions and switched fields. Our first couple of touches gave our boys a lot of confidence."
CCS' defense will have its hands full Friday night as they take on a potent Ridgeway team. Ridgeway will bring a 15-2-1 record. With Thursday's win, CCS moves to 18-5-2.
In the first game of the afternoon, Ridgeway scored three goals in the first half and three in the second to defeat Christian Academy of Knoxville Thursday afternoon at Finley Stadium.
