Local entertainment icon James Rogers, along with veteran radio and television broadcasters Chip Chapman and David Carroll, were presented Lieutenant Colonel Aide De Camp Governor’s Staff awards by retired Georgia Senator Jeff Mullis. He made the presentation on behalf of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.
The proclamations cite their patriotism, valor, and fidelity, and charge each with carrying out the directives set forth by Governor Kemp.
James Rogers began entertaining in the early days of the Chattanooga Choo Choo’s popular Station House Restaurant, and parlayed that success into a 40-plus year career working for Dolly Patton’s Dollywood empire. He still continues recording and touring.
He is also on the board of directors for the American Eagle Foundation, and wrote and recorded “I Guard America”, the official song of the National Guard.
Chip Chapman has worked at several area radio stations since 1980, and has been a fixture on WDEF News 12 for decades, co-anchoring their Morning Show, the popular midday show Let’s Chatt, and News 12 at noon. Additionally, he’s the longtime emcee for Chattanooga’s Armed Forces Day Parade, the Fort Oglethorpe Veterans Day Parade, and numerous other events.
David Carroll has also been a mainstay in Chattanooga broadcasting, joining WRCB Local 3 News in the 1980’s. The award-winning Carroll has produced the station’s “School Patrol” educational reports, in addition to anchoring their afternoon and early evening newscasts. He and his wife Cindy are the proud parents of two sons, Chris and Vince.
