We always enjoy the food at Eidson Restaurant located at 5308 Ringgold Road. I started eating there just out of high school (when my brother was one of their dishwashers during his high school days), but hadn't been there in many years until we started doing reviews. Now I again look forward to our visits to Eidson and checking out what's on the daily specials menu - although the last two times we were there (not to do a review, but just to dine) I was disappointed.

Oh, it was not the food - it was that they didn't have Corned Beef and Cabbage on the menu and Eidson seems to have the most tender in town!

We ordered the homemade potato chips, which we always enjoy. They were tasty and crisp. We also ordered the fried mushrooms but were not happy with them on this occasion. The outside was very hot and crisp, while the inside was cold! Ick!

The meals are served with your choice of soup or salad and we both ordered the cup of soup, which happened to be homemade Clam Chowder on this particular date. We both decided this was some of the best we've enjoyed in a good while.

As always, Wayne wants their Fried Chicken because it has a great crust. The crust batter is different than most. He also ordered mashed potatoes with gravy and fresh corn. They always have fresh veggies - including turnip greens. The squash casserole is pretty good, too. This time I ordered the catfish - I didn't know what to order since I had arrived ready for Corned Beef that was nowhere to be found.

Just a word of warning - if you're really hungry - you'll have to wait about 25 minutes for the fried chicken 'cause they make it fresh - and it's always worth the wait.

Eidson is a nice place to go and enjoy good food with fresh veggies and homemade soups, etc. The food always has a delicious taste and we might note that they keep the building decor updated for a pleasing appearance. It is important for a restaurant to serve good tasting food and improve on the appearance in order to attract new customers of all ages. This should be a word of advice for those who don't consider this an important factor!

Our only complaint is that the hostess who always seems to be on duty when we go there appears to be a “grump.” She’s never friendly and gives us the impression it bothers her to have to seat us. On the other hand, the servers we’ve had tend to be a little friendlier. The hostess should realize she is the customer’s first impression of the restaurant.

Hours are Monday through Thursday - 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; on Friday until 9:30 p.m.; Saturday 5:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. They are closed on Sunday. Entree prices range from $5.95 - $13.95.

The new Adventures Coupon Books are in. They make perfect Christmas or Hanukkah gifts – or for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Just go to the dine out web site and place your order.
