David E. Von Schaaf, 83, of Chattanooga died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at his home.
He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church and Men's Fellowship Class and retired supervisor from Dupont Co.
He was a World War II veteran and was active in the 6th Cavalry in Europe, France and Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Electronics Communication Intelligence (coder). After the war, he taught Morse Code for 30 years and was a Ham operator (amateur radio).
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Agnes Von Shaaf; and his sister, Katherine Couch.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Von Schaaf; stepdaughter, Olivia McBrauer; stepsons, Jack B. Richeson and Robert "Donnie" Richeson; sisters, Elizabeth Barger and Peggie Markum; brothers, Lillard and James VonShaaf; grandchildren, Lorie Marsh, Daniel Richeson, Angela Dykes, Amanda Howard, Janie Brown and Michael McBrayer; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel, with Dr. Fred Steelman officiating.
The pallbearers will be Lynn Rhea, Don Tipps, O.B. Scott, Joe Ben Hutcheson, Walter Rogers and Charlie Steele.
The honorary pallbearers will be Men's Fellowship Class of Red Bank Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday.
