We are saddened to announce the passing of James Reynolds Setliffe, Sr., 76, of East Ridge, Tennessee, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
He was born March 6, 1949 in Chattanooga to the late William Elmer Setliffe Jr. and Mildred Reynolds Setliffe.
Jim honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1968-1972 and served a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1970. Upon being discharged, he was employed with the East Ridge Police Department and then with TVA as Manager of Corporate Nuclear Security.
Jim was a genuinely good man who believed in helping people and was always ready to assist anyone in need without receiving credit or attention. He left a lasting impression on all of the lives he touched. Jim also loved history and family genealogy. Later in life, he found pleasure in baking as a hobby and was always preparing desserts and baked goods for his friends and family.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, William Setliffe, and sister, Ann Setliffe.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol Setliffe; Sons, Jimmy Setliffe (Tammy) and Matt Setliffe; Grandchildren, Desi Johnson, Samuel Setliffe, River Pruett, Ava Setliffe, Jane Setliffe, Islay Setliffe, Ruaridh Setliffe, Maia Brisbane ; Great Grandchildren, Stetson, Billy and Lizzie Johnson, Timber and Cedar Pruett; Sister, Bonnie Setliffe.
Public viewing will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, at Chattanooga Funeral Home-East Chapel, 404 S. Moore Road, Chattanooga TN 37421.
The funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 21, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home- East Chapel. Burial service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2 p.m..
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council.
