The Chattanooga Region, Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) celebrated a great 2003 racing season with their annual awards banquet and meeting on the Southern Belle River Boat.
Guest speaker for the event was Dr. Jim Osborn of the professional Chili Pepper Racing Team.
Fourteen SCCA members received special recognition for a year of service and superior driving skill.
Member of the Year, Gail Perry, and Volunteer of the Year, Jennifer Dobler, were lauded for their volunteer efforts.
The Region Appreciation Award went to Carl Blevins for his work on the Chattanooga Region website.
Will Perry was the recipient of both the Harvey Templeton Road Racer of the Year and Performance Rally Co-Driver of the Year awards. The Performance Rally Driver of the Year was Randy Bailey.
Other award winners were Ruth Cartlidge, Rookie of the Year; Michael Reid, Junior Driver of the Year; David Brooks, RallyCross Driver of the Year; Dave Hester, Solo I Driver of the Year; Trey Commander, Solo II Appreciation Award; Jamie Hamilton, Speed Freakz of the Year; Brian Flanagan, Solo II Driver of the Year.
The Region Subaru Cup award went to Derek Kunkewitz, the Road Ralliest of the Year was Josh Aslinger, and the Most Improved Driver was Phil Thatch.
The Chattanooga SCCA sponsors over 20 local competition events each year: Road Rallies, Autocrosses, and RallyCrosses. The 150 members also participate in numerous regional and national motor sports events, as workers, officials, drivers, and crew. All the work is done by volunteers and all the drivers are amateur, with the exception of Dr. Osborn, who donates all his professional winnings to charity.
