Fusion Fitness and Physical Therapy Opens On Cherokee Boulevard

  • Wednesday, February 4, 2004

Fusion Fitness and Physical Therapy, which "offers a complete package of physical therapy, personal training and nutrition expertise for its clients," opened for business on Wednesday.

The firm is located in North Chattanooga at 25 Cherokee Blvd. It is across the street from the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Business Development Center in a 6,700-square foot facility.

Fusion Fitness and Physical Therapy is a medically-based center offering both fitness and physical therapy.

Officials said it "integrates physical therapy, personal fitness training, dietary consultation, and massage therapy. This concept has proven success in cities including Washington, D.C. and Phoenix.

"Fusion Fitness and Physical Therapy offers the logical transition between physical therapy and continued personal training and wellness. After discharge from physical therapy, clients can begin a maintenance program using much of the same equipment and continuing contact with their therapist. Fusion will provide accountability and encouragement in wellness and fitness goals.

"Fusion Fitness and Physical Therapy provides benefits to employers as well as clients. Studies show that healthier individuals have cheaper health care, fewer sick leave days, and higher work effectiveness. Fusion will work with businesses to develop work wellness programs through corporate memberships."

Its facility features the Hydroworx 500 aquatic therapy pool. Fusion is the only fitness or physical therapy facility in the Chattanooga area with this specialized pool, officials said.

The pool features a variable speed treadmill, variable water depth, cluster therapy jets, and a resistance jet with massage hose. Users can swim against the pool’s current and walk or run on the treadmill. The pool can also be used for aquatic therapy and water aerobics, ideally suiting the needs of both physical therapy patient and the seasoned athlete in training.

Hours of Operation are Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Fusion’s fitness staff includes professionals in physical therapy, personal training, nutrition, and massage therapy. Each discipline will integrate with the others, but individualized services in these areas are also offered, it was stated.

Staff members include:

Ann Sharpe, director, fitness program: Ann is a certified strength and conditioning instructor with a master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She is an experienced clinical physical therapist, working in environments such as sports medicine, rehabilitation, orthopedics, and neurological rehabilitation.
