The Chattanooga Lookouts won for the third straight time over the first place Birmingham Barons on Sunday evening courtesy of a tremendous performance from Lookouts starting pitcher Jared Lyons. Lyons tossed six innings of shutout ball striking out four and allowing only five hits. The win makes him 4-5 on the season with a 3.96 earned run average.
Arij Fransen threw two shutout innings in relief followed by Trevor Kuncl who earned his 16th save with a scoreless ninth inning. Kuncl now sports a 1.45 earned run average.
With one out in the fourth inning the Lookouts shortstop Edwin Arroyo hit a line drive single. Cam Collier's fielders choice resulted in Arroyo ending up on third base via an errant throw by first baseman DJ Gladney. Ruben Ibarra then chopped a base hit to third base that scored Arroyo for the deciding run. It was Ibarra's 48th run batted in on the season.
After dropping the first three games of the series the Lookouts won the final three to even the series. Chattanooga still sits eight games back in the second half division series.
