Someone doing something right rarely gets noted these days on social media or anywhere.
I would like to recognize a local business which is doing something right, the new Jack’s Restaurant at 315 North Main Street, La Fayette, Ga. Yes, right on the main drag in town; just opened in late June.
What are they doing right? The neat building and the thoughtful parking areas, but most of all they planted oak trees on the street side, and they planted them in a pattern that will allow the trees to be thinned over the next 75-100 years to maintain shady spaces along our main street.
We are losing our tree cover in La Fayette, and in most towns. Only 50 years ago, our main streets were mostly lined with large oak and maple trees. Now, there is an ocean of pavement with barren parking areas. Yes, we are happy with the new park and Commons on the square, but the entire city could be full of tree-lined streets, which are helpful in lowering temperatures five to six degrees during the summer, and in avoiding heat islands.
Thanks, Jack’s Restaurant management. Hope you set a pattern.
