New Outdoor Magazine Launched With Outdoor Party

  • Wednesday, March 16, 2005

An outdoor party was set for this afternoon (Wednesday) to launch Chattanooga’s new outdoor magazine.

The city has been invited to “Come out and play” at Coolidge Park in downtown Chattanooga to celebrate the launching of xplor magazine with Mayor Bob Corker. xplor is a 68-page publication packed with fun and energetic articles about kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, hang gliding, and mountain biking, it was stated.

The event will take place at Coolidge Park from 4 to 6 p.m. and includes a variety of activities in partnership with Outdoor Chattanooga and various outdoor interest groups around the region.

Mayor Corker will kick off the event by unveiling the new magazine. Other speakers to headline the event include Rob Healy, Executive Director of Outdoor Chattanooga; David McDonald, publisher of xplor; and key xplor staff.

The event will feature many family-friendly activities including fly-fishing lessons from Choo Choo Fly & Tackle; kayaking lessons from OutVenture Outdoor Chattanooga; lessons on the rock climbing wall led by the Adventure Guild; a scavenger hunt for all ages; and disc golf.

Fun prizes, Moonpies, and copies of xplor will be given away to everyone who attends. The event will be catered by Coca-Cola, Famous Dave’s barbecue, and Smoothie King.

“This magazine has seen tremendous support from the citizens of our community and advertisers as well as from everyone who is associated with the outdoors in our region,” said David McDonald, president and CEO of True North Custom Publishing, LLC, the company producing xplor. “I am amazed at the interest in this magazine.”

“As a supporter of the outdoors for many years, I’m proud to be a part of this exciting outdoor magazine and to work with an energetic company that cares about promoting the outdoors and our region,” said Mike Pollock, editor-at-large of xplor magazine and owner of RedPoint Management, LLC.

“Launching this magazine is a collaborative effort between xplor staff, Outdoor Chattanooga, Mayor Corker, and the many dedicated outdoor enthusiasts from around the region who have shared their stories and their passion for the outdoors with us,” said Sheryl Montle, senior managing editor of xplor magazine. “We’re excited to unveil this outdoor magazine to the region, and we plan to continue to provide insightful and informative articles for years to come.”

xplor magazine supports Outdoor Chattanooga’s goal to promote healthier lifestyles and involvement in outdoor activities. The publication is packed with useful and insightful articles that reflect the varied outdoor activities in our region. Included in the magazine are three in-depth features focusing on outdoor activities performed on land, in the water, and in the air.

Secondary features include environmental and educational issues. xplor also offers a current listing of outdoor activities, the newest places to hike and mountain bike, and the gear you’ll need to get there.

xplor has already attracted substantial interest in the region, officials said. The magazine is launching to almost 50,000 readers from the local area to California and from Montana to Canada. xplor is expected to grow to 100,000 by 2006.
