Emma “Bootie” Varallo, 83, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, in a local hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Michael and Sara Strahle. Mrs. Varallo graduated from Chattanooga High School and Georgetown Visitation College. She retired from Rone Regency Jewelers as secretary and treasurer.
She was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where her grandfather donated the organ and she recently supervised the restoration of the church organ.
She was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital and a member of the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club. She was active in the Riverview Oaks Garden and Bridge Club.
She was preceded in death by her son, Frank John Varallo Jr.; sister, Phyllis Moorman; and brother-in-law, Joseph Moorman.
She is survived by husband of 62 years, Frank J. Varallo Sr.; daughter, Sara Cathrine Bratton, and husband, Gilbert Bratton, of Chattanooga; two sisters, Cottie Wellborn and husband, John Wellborn, of Dataw Island, S.C., and Sara Rowlette, of Indian Harbour Beach, Fl.; brother, John Michael Strahle Jr., of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Adam and Grant Bratton; three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Andrew and Victoria; cousin, Madolyn Strahle Tankersley, of Signal Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father George Schmidt and Father Mike Nolan officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7 p.m.
