Gertrude "Trudi" Gaines Christian, age 92, died in the morning, Wednesday, February 14, at a local hospital.
A resident of Chattanooga, she was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and was strong in her Christian faith. "Trudi" was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Reverend J.C. Christian who was a Methodist minister for 40 years with the North and South Georgia and Holston Conferences, and one sister, "Myrt" Smith.
Ms. Christian is survived by her son, Charles E. Christian and daughter-in-law, Patricia Roach Christian of Chattanooga; granddaughter, Denise (David) Hamby of Chattanooga; and grandson, Michael E. Christian of Cleveland. She leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored, Christina Nicole Holder, Jacob D. Hamby, Zachary J. Hamby, Rebecca Hamby, Aaron Christian Hamby, Miles Elijah Christian and Charles Kent Christian; her sister, Kay White of Ringgold, Ga.; nephew, Douglas (Lisa) White of Chickamauga, Ga.; niece, Marilyn (Joe) Tucci of Edgewater, Fl., and two great nephews, Douglas White, III and Zachary White both of Chickamauga, Ga.
Active in the Chattanooga Retired Methodist Minister's Association, she was also involved with Keenagers and cherished the Friendship Class of the St. John's United Methodist Church. Trudi was also an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and could be found many days watching them on television during baseball season.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held following the Saturday receiving of friends at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Ron Goodman and Dallas Beck officiating. Interment will follow the funeral at Lakewood Memory Gardens - South.
Pallbearers for Ms. Christian are Mike Christian, Johnny Taylor, David Hamby, Josh Sewell, Douglas White, III, and Zachary White. Honorary pallbearers are the Frienship Sunday School Class of St. John's United Methodist Church and the Retired Methodist Ministers Group.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 3921 Murray Hills Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
