Gray, Jeanette Robinson

Jeanette Robinson Gray, 93, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, March 1, 2007, at the LifeCare Center of Red Bank.

Mrs. Gray was born in Auburntown, Tn., to William Hays Robinson and Una Jane Adams Robinson. She moved at a young age, with her family, to Chattanooga where her father managed a Hill store in St. Elmo. She worked for 43 years at the Tennessee Egg Company where she retired as payroll bookkeeper.

Mrs. Gray was active in the Tennessee Baptist Businesswomen, serving for a time as treasurer. She was a longtime member of St. Elmo Avenue Baptist Church where she served both as a Sunday School teacher and as a cook. She blessed many through the years with her delicious meals: from the day care to the fellowship hall at the church, and from dinners at the local Urban Ministries meetings to family holidays and celebrations. All these things she did with her sweet, quiet spirit.

She and her sisters and brother-in-law traveled extensively, visiting all of the continental United States and Mexico. She later traveled twice to Europe to visit grandchildren living there; and while in her eighties, Mrs. Gray visited Hawaii.

In her later years, Mrs. Gray’s smiling face was a blessing to her caregivers at LifeCare Center of Red Bank; their loving care and the visits from the Home Ministry group of Red Bank Baptist enriched her life.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Harvey Webb, sisters, Bonnie Mae Robinson Jones, Wenzola Robinson Kiger and Reinza Robinson; brothers, James Leonard Robinson, Lincoln Frank Robinson, Owen Overall Robinson and Kenneth Wayne Robinson.

Mrs. Gray is survived by a daughter, Joan Lockaby Youngblood, of Chattanooga; six grandchildren, Robert Lee (Becky) Lockaby, Jr., Laura Lockaby (Scott) Lillard and Kelly Youngblood (Billy) Gentry of Chattanooga, David Lockaby of Atlanta, Ga., Richard (Chris) Harvey, Jr. of Indianapolis, In.; six great-grandchildsons, Matt, Luke Josiah, Simon, Andrew and Sawyer; two nieces, Carolyn Kiger Alley and Elizabeth Robinson (Ollie) Olson; a nephew, Emmett (Joann) Robinson and many loving caregivers at LifeCare of Red Bank.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

After a private graveside service a memorial service will be held at North Shore Fellowship at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to Chattanooga Resource Foundation: Urban Ministries.

Mrs. Gray leaves for her family a legacy of a life well-lived.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
