Trotter, Ruth Garvich

Longtime Executive Secretary For Dupont

  • Sunday, May 27, 2007

Ruth Garvich Trotter, 85, died on Thursday, May 24, 2007, after a brief illness.

Ruth was born in Dunlap, Tn., to Charles and Ina Garvich, but grew up in Chattanooga where she graduated from Chattanooga High School and secretarial school. On December 25, 1941 she married Lee Allen Trotter who was her devoted husband until his death in 1991.

Ruth was a career employee of E.I. DuPont de Nemours for over 26 years serving as secretary to seven plant managers. To many she was known as the "face" of the company working with all levels of employees, and she was a trusted confidante of plant and corporate executives.

After retirement, Ruth and Lee Allen traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Holy Land. She frequently commented that "those 12 years of travel were the best in her life" when they enjoyed the companionship of friends in their travels. Ruth and Lee Allen were devoted to First Baptist Church - Golden Gateway, and worked tirelessly on church outreach activities.

In addition, Ruth was an arts lover, enjoying opera and symphony and volunteering her time with the Little Theater Associates. Ruth was an avid reader, a bridge player, a pet lover, and enjoyed tending her flowers.

Affectionately known as "Dandy," Ruth excelled at being a grandmother. She nurtured her three grandchildren and was a major contributor in their love of arts.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Lee Allen Trotter, daughter, Carol Trotter Harris, and parents, Charles and Ina Garvich.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Trotter Tousek; grandchildren, Emily Tousek, Holly Harris Misirly (Mark) of Roswell, Ga., and John Cleveland Harris, Annapolis, Md.; and twin great-grandchildren, Andrew and Leah Misirly.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the McEwen Chapel of First Baptist Church - Golden Gateway with Dr. Gary Carver officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

A special thanks to Summit View, Trinity Hospice of Chattanooga, and Life Care Center of Red Bank.
