WWII Navy Veteran Retired From U.S. Postal Service

Ronald Dennie Eaves, 80, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, October, 27, 2008.

A longtime resident of Chattanooga, Mr. Eaves was instrumental in the 1950’s and 60’s in the early formation of the Knothole and Youth Little League baseball programs in the East Brainerd area. He was retired from the U.S. Post Office and was a WWII Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Raymond and Ila Edmonds Eaves; wife, Bettye Eaves; brothers, J.R. Eaves, Edmond Eaves; sisters, Mary Smith, Betty Mingo, and Sandra Keller.

He is survived by his daughters, Ronnelle Blankenship and Susan Lee Ranyak, both of Chattanooga; three grandchildren, Mark Blankenship, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Lisa Andrews, Chickamauga, Ga.; Andrew Horton, Gallipolis, Oh.; sister, Beverly Ann Keen, Pensacola, Fl.; brothers, Don S. Eaves, Chattanooga; Tommy Dale Eaves, Nashville, Tn.; and Joel C. Eaves, Pensacola, Fl.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rev. Stephen McCary officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416, or East Brainerd Youth Athletic Association, c/o Chattanooga Recreational Dept., City Hall, Chattanooga, Tn. 37402.
