Hiram Langley
Hiram Glazier Langley Jr., 84, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at his home at Creekside Manor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram Glazier Langley Sr. and Naomi Marler Langley; sister, Peggy Ellen Dement; and wife of 62 years, Isabel Meeks Langley in 2003.
Mr. Langley was born in Swanee, Tn. He graduated from Grundy County High School where he had a four-year letter in football. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII in the South Pacific.
He and his wife Isabel founded Langley Real Estate and Insurance in 1959. He was a real estate appraiser for over 30 years. He was governor of the State and National Society of Real Estate Appraisers and served on local chapters as well.
He was a founding member of the Cumberland Youth Foundation and served as the treasurer for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #558 East Ridge, was a 32nd Degree Mason Scottish Rite, president and member of the Shriners Clown Unit, founding member of the Red Fez Club, life member of the Alhambra Temple, and founding member and treasurer of the Chattanooga Swim League. Mr. Langley was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Priscilla Woods, Atlanta; sons, Hiram G. (Chip) Langley III and wife Betty Anne, Chattanooga; Mike Langley and wife Beverly, Chattanooga; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Larry Schenk officiating. Burial will be at 12 p.m. (CST) at Tracy City Cemetery, Tracy City, Tn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Youth Foundation, 1505 North Moore Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37411.
