Jeanette Hale Richey, 69, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, August 30, 2008 in an area hospital.

Ms Richey was born February 24, 1939 in DeKalb County, Tn. She was a member of Maranantha Baptist Church and was employed with James Glass Company.

She was a 1957 graduate of DeKalb County High School in Smithville, Tn., and recently attended her 50-year class reunion. After graduation, she attended Middle Tennessee State University.

She moved to Chattanooga in 1959 and lived with her family in Highland Park. Upon getting married, she moved to Ft. Oglethorpe where she started her family and moved back to Chattanooga where she lived in Holly Hills for the next 20 years.

She spent her years living an active and fulfilling life. She traveled to Europe on her 50th birthday and went on many vacations, going to Florida and many other places over the year when she could.

She was active in her church and was involved in many school functions, serving as a homeroom mother and served with the PTA. She was also an active member of her community garden club and a former member of Order of the Eastern Star.

When her grandson was born, she affectionately became known as “Grammy." He was the apple of her eye and he had very special love for her as well. Anything her “Little Buddy” was involved with, she was there.

She spent her life caring for others when she needed to be cared for herself. She was a selfless caregiver with a true servant’s heart. She will be remembered as a wonderful daughter, mother, sister and grandmother who made her community better and brighter because she was part of it.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Helen Hale, and her brother, Max Hale.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Tracy Richey; grandson, Keith Richey, II; brother, Dwayne Hale, sister-in-law, Lila Hale; nieces, Lisa Hale Bennett, Emily Hale, Amanda Hale Smith, Jennifer Hale, Callie Hale and Joy Hale; nephew, Howard Hale, Jr.; several great-nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Tuesday at noon at Maranantha Baptist Church, with Rev. Billy Dean, Rev. Mark Atkins, and Rev. Jerry Hall officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South with Howard Hale Jr., Christian Bennett, L.M. Murphy, Jewell Murphy and Judd Murphy serving as pallbearers. Her grandson, Keith Richey II will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Ms. Richey will lie in state at the church one hour before the service.
