Eddie Knight
Eddie Knight, 84, died on Saturday, November 21, 2009 in Chattanooga.
He accepted Christ at an early age, first at Mount Olive AME Church, Ft. Meyers, Fl. He was educated in the Lee County School System and was a graduate of Dunbar High School.
He was a member of St. Paul AME Church in Chattanooga for 52 years, where he faithfully served as a member of the conference organization, president of the Laymen organization, vice-chair of the trustee board, class leader number four, and member of the South Chattanooga Gateway Corporation.
He was a 1949 graduate of Tuskegee Institute (University) where he met his wife of 60 years, Eloise Smith Knight. From this union, three children were born, Maurice, Phillis and Eric.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Reanna Knight; sisters, Margurerite D. Robinson, Arsenia "Tight" Wilson, and Helen L. Knight Agent.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eloise; daughter, Phillis (Cornell) Williams, Houston Tx., sons, Maurice Knight, Memphis, Tn., and Eric Knight; grandchildren, Delane (Victoria), Torence, Ca., Thomas (Tammy), Eric Jr., Brian and Chris Knight, all of Memphis; great-grandchildren, Skyla and Jada, Torrence, Ca., and Miles Knight, Memphis; nephews, George (Patricia) and Cornell Agent, Ft. Meyers, Fl., Fredrick (Carol), Anthony (Jackie), and Dwayne Smith; nieces, Margaretta and Linda Agent, Ft. Meyers, Fl.; great-niece, Shuntale Smith Fairbanks; sisters-in-law, Gladys and Mary Smith; cousins, Florence Knowles, Carl Wise, Coutney Knowles Jr., all of West Palm Beach, Fl., Eva Wise and family; Curtis (Patricia) Knowles, Cape Coral, Fl., Dorothy Lane, Staten Island, N.Y.; the Franklin family, Sanford, Fl., Annie Lee Sturne and Robert (Juliette) Sturne; special friends, Gwen Taylor, Richard William, Jimmy and Ruth Williams; caregivers, Karen Bryant, Gwendolyn (Pinky) Pinderton, Elaine Burnett; special thanks to Amedysis Hospice Services.
Funeral Services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Saint Paul AME Church with Reverend David Strong officiating. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 6-7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
