New City Fellowship Church will be the venue for the 2009 Mercy Ministries Conference sponsored by several agencies. The conference scheduled for March 12-14, will be held at 2424 East Third Street.
Officials said, "Now is a crucial time for churches to develop ministries that will be effective during these tough economic times. Through workshops and discussions on Adoption, Reconciliation, Disabilities, Homelessness, Deacons, Recruiting volunteers, Community Outreach, Special Needs Ministry and Ministry to the Poor, this conference is an excellent opportunity to learn more about 'how to do mercy.'"
Speakers include Amy Sherman, the director of The Center on Faith in Communities, where they “seek to inspire, educate, equip, and resource the Christian community for the work of mercy and justice among the poor.” Other speakers include Steve Corbett, Julian Russell, Stephanie Hubach, Fred and Tara Barthel, Gene Johnson, Nancy Booher, George and Karen Grant, Bob Burns, Randy Nabors, Sarah Lipp, and David and Nancy Guthrie.
