River of Gold by Dan Williams
Bill Shores Gallery exhibits the work of elusive local bird photographer Dan Williams, beginning with a reception on May 28, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The exhibit continues through June 22.
“Dan's photography startles the viewer because his composition invariably captures both the beauty of the bird and the beauty of the setting,” said gallery owner Kathy Reed.
She explains that she has been wanting to see and show Dan Williams work for years, ever since he showed one time at the Chattanooga Market several years ago. She didn’t make it to the Chattanooga Market that week, so she missed his exhibit, but ever since she has heard many local collectors talking about his work.
“Last fall Dan stopped in to see me,” said Ms. Reed. “He said he had been to the gallery a couple of times, and felt it was the right place to show his work. He asked if he could bring some in. I said sure. Then, one after one, he held up the most beautiful bird photographs I had ever seen. It's one thing to capture an image of a beautiful bird, It's entirely another to capture a beautiful image of a beautiful bird. His composition, clarity and sense of color are absolutely striking. He finds the uniquely perfect setting for even the most commonplace birds, and shows them off perfectly.”
Williams will print and frame a large version of one special photo and offer it as the unique “original” of that image. He will only print that image at that size once, although he will print smaller versions. He will also have as many other framed images and unframed prints on display.
Bill Shores Frames & Gallery is Chattanooga’s oldest custom frame store, also offering an eclectic selection of jewelry, gifts and fine art in addition to custom framing. The gallery specializes in exhibiting contemporary works by artists of the Cherokee and other southeastern tribes alongside contemporary paintings and photography of the southeastern landscape.
