~Cogs and “Dogs” Bicycle Ride July 30
Outdoor Chattanooga will host a leisurely downtown bicycle tour, followed
by hot dogs on Thurs., July 30, 5:30 p.m., at our facility in Coolidge
Park (200 River St.). The five to ten-mile guided bicycle ride will take
participants through Chattanooga neighborhoods, historic areas, and
business districts. After the ride, the group will go to a north shore hot
dog eatery to chow down. The ride is open to adults and children 16 and
older when accompanied by an adult. Cost is $5 for riders with their own
bicycles, $15 to rent an 8-speed cruiser from the Outdoor Chattanooga
Mobile Bicycle Fleet. Price does not include dinner. Call (423) 643-6888

~Bike2Work Aug. 7
Join Chattanooga’s bicycle commuters for free coffee and traffic tales at
the monthly [ http://www.bikechattanooga.org ]Bike2Work breakfast, Fri.,
Aug. 7, from 7 to 8:30 a.m., on the south end of the Walnut St. Bridge.
Experienced commuters, first-timers, or people interested in trying

~Only Two More Weeks for Downtown Kayak Tours
Outdoor Chattanooga’s [ http://www.outdoorchattanooga.com/1624.htm
]downtown kayak tours will continue every Thurs., Fri., and Sat. morning
at 9:30 a.m. through Aug. 15. The beginner-friendly tours last
approximately two hours and take participants around downtown Chattanooga
on the Tennessee River. Cost is $35 for adults 14 and older and $25 for
children ages 8-13. Pre-register online with a credit card or call (423)
643-6888 to register with cash or check.


~Registration Open for 3rd Annual TN River Blueway Canoe and Kayak Race
Kayakers and Canoeists of all skill levels can now register for the third
annual [ http://www.outdoorchattanooga.com/1673.htm ]Tennessee River
Blueway Canoe and Kayak Race, happening on Sat., Sept. 26, 10 a.m. on the
Tennessee River in downtown Chattanooga. This year, pre and post-race
activities will take place at Outdoor Chattanooga’s new building in
Coolidge Park. Paddlers may opt for a 2-mile or 6-mile course, which
starts and finishes at Ross’ Landing. Mail-in registration is now open.

~Greenway 5-MileTrail Race Aug. 8
The [ http://www.runintheboonies.org/ ]Boonies Wilderness Trail Running
Association and Rock/Creek will host the Greenway 5-Mile Trail Race on
Sat., Aug. 8 at 9 a.m. at Greenway Farm in Hixson, TN. The short race is
perfect for people who are new to trail running and or who would like a
short sprint in the woods. Cost is $10 without a technical tee shirt, $25
with a shirt and proceeds benefit the Boonies. [

~Missionary Ridge Road Race Aug. 8
Sat., Aug. 8 will be the 36th annual running of the John Bruner Memorial
Missionary Ridge Road Race. Net proceeds from the race will go to the
Chattanooga American Red Cross and to Team Bruner for running
scholarships. The 4.7 mile, shaded course with rolling hills runs atop
Missionary Ridge, beginning and ending at Bragg Reservation. [

~Chattanooga Bicycle Club Beginner Road Ride Aug. 1
The [ http://www.chattbike.com/ ]Chattanooga Bicycle Club will host a
beginner road ride at Chickamauga Battlefield on Sat., Aug. 1, at 9 a.m.
The ride will begin with a 7-mile, flat loop, then if participants are up
for more, the leader will expand the route to a larger loop that includes
some small hills. All participants should have a bike, helmet, water
bottle, questions about biking, and a smile. Participants should meet at
the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitors Center no later than 9 a.m. Contact

~SORBA Mtn. Bike Ride at Harrison Bay Aug. 8
The [ http://www.sorbachattanooga.org/ ]Chattanooga chapter of the
Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association will host their monthly "relaxed"
ride at Harrison Bay State Park on Sat., Aug. 8, at 9 a.m. Harrison Bay's
beginner-friendly, 4.5-mile loop trail is a perfect opportunity for
beginners to try single track mountain biking. For more information, call

A vigorous 9-mile day hike in the Citico/Slickrock Wilderness. Bob

Soddy-Daisy Chapter of the Tennessee Trails Association

A day of exploratory hiking on the Cumberland Trail at [

Oregon Manifest Design Challenge
Attention, bicycle frame builders. If you think you can design a frame
that is tough enough to handle the rigors of daily commuting and look

panel of bicycle and design experts who will judge the entries based on
specified performance, functional, and aesthetic criteria. Then, the

off-road race with dirt, gravel, elevation climbs, and urban technical
trials.

The Adventure Cycling Association is searching for an individual or

representative. Primary responsibility will be to sell advertising for the
flagship magazine, "Adventure Cyclist," along with ads on their website.
Adventure Cycling is open to proposals from either independent contractors
(on commission) or from individuals who would prefer to work on the
Adventure Cycling staff on salary plus commission with benefits. Please
submit your proposal and a current resume by August 11, 2009.
