Amanda Leona Jones Ellington, 86, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died on Thursday, January 14, 2010, at a local hospital.

She was the daughter of Dave and Bertha Jones and was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William L. Ellington, daughter, Mitzi Jean Ellington, brother, Raymond C. Jones and great-nephew, Matthew Veazey.

She was a graduate of the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing. She was a veteran of WWII having served as a nurse in the U.S. Navy.

Leona was a member of Open Door Baptist Church.

Survivors include her niece, Kelley (Bill) Veazey, of Signal Mountain, nephew, Dan (Reta) Jones, of Jefferson City, Tn., step-niece, Patricia Pittman, of Chattanooga, great-nephew, David Veazey and great-niece, Elaine Jones (Alex) Francis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Tyson officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5–8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association - Mid South Chapter.
