Joe T. "Big Joe" Hatfield, 82, of Pikeville, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010.
Joe was of the Baptist Faith. He served during WWII in the U. S. Navy aboard the cruiser USS Topeka. After the Navy, he returned home and finished High School. His senior year in High School he was the first from Bledsoe County to be selected for the All State Football Team. His senior year as running back he scored 39 touchdowns. In the Spring of 1947, he went to work for SVEC and worked his way up through the rank. 45 years later he retired as district manager. In October 1949, he married the late Dorothy Clark and were married for 60 years.
Survivors include daughter, Mary Ellen Hatfield, Pikeville; son, Joe (Peggy) T. Hatfield, Jr., Douglasville, Ga.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters, Minnie Lee Curtis, Pikeville and Ann Green, Whitwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. CST with burial in Pikeville Cemetery. Bros. Albert Roberts and Mitchell Wilson will be officiating.
Visitation is Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 5-9 p.m. CST.
