Tullahoma's Katye Brock Is State's Distinguished Young Woman

Tullahoma High School senior Katye Brock became the first Distinguished Young Woman of Tennessee Saturday night in Cleveland as the Tennessee Junior Miss program unveiled the name change near the conclusion of the program.

The program was held before a near capacity audience at the Dixon Center on the Lee University campus.

America's Junior Miss officially became the Distinguished Young Woman of America in June to emphasize the scholastic, talent, leadership and fitness aspects of the program.

Miss Brock's rendition of "Defying Gravity" from the musical "Wicked" earned her the Overall Talent Award and she also won Overall Interview and was a preliminary winner in Self-Expression.

Miss Brock, who wants to attend the College of Charleston to study international law, won $6,000 in scholarships - $5,000 for the state title and $500 each for Overall Talent and Interview.

Miss Brock, who has performed in musical theater throughout Middle Tennessee, dazzled the judges with her rendition of "Defying Gravity" from "Wicked".

She will represent the state at next June's Distinguished Young Woman of America program in Mobile.

Kaylee Ann Disterdick of Soddy Daisy was chosen 1st Alternate and Overall Fitness and Self-Expression winner.

Miss Disterdick, a senior at Soddy Daisy High School, was awarded $3,000 in scholarships

Caylee Grace Cochran of Rhea County was the Spirit Award winner.

Miss Cochran, a senior at Rhea County High School, was selected by the contestants to receive a $500 scholarship as the participant who best embodied the program's motto of "Being Your Best Self".
