University of Tennessee at Chattanooga defensive back Kadeem Wise (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Week for his play in UTC's 27-21 win at Western Carolina on Saturday.
Wise picked off two passes for the Mocs, giving him four interceptions for the season. That ties UTC's freshman record set in 1978 by current head coach Russ Huesman. Wise is the first Moc with multiple INTs in a game since Buster Skrine had two against Western Kentucky in 2007. He added three tackles and one pass break-up in the win over the Catamounts.
Wise has started every game at cornerback and is tied for second in the SoCon with four picks. This is the third week in a row the Mocs have had at least one player of the week honoree from the Southern Conference.
Appalachian State's DeAndre Presley was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Georgia Southern's Laron Scott earned defensive honors. The Mountaineers were also represented on special teams by punter Sam Martin.
UTC evened its record at 2-2 with the win over the Catamounts. The Mocs are also 1-1 in SoCon action heading into the off-week. Chattanooga will next travel to Charleston, S.C. to take on The Citadel on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m.
