Harvey Nix
Mr. Harvey Nix, 88, died on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 with his family by his side.
Mr. Nix was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Childersburg, Ala., to the late Oscar and Susie (Menefee) Nix. He moved to Chattanooga at the age of two. Mr. Nix was a veteran of World War II, having served faithfully in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Southern Railway and U.S. Pipe.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Nix was preceded in death by his sister, Callie Mae (Patsy) Nix, brother, Louis Nix and great-granddaughter, Dominique Dyson.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Bernice (McKinney); four daughters, Geraldine Mims, Freda Nix, Gail (Bobby) Talley, and Constance Brown; son, Roderick Nix; seven grandchildren, Tanya McIntosh, Christen Nix, Sean Nix, George, Arrielle and Annais Brown, and Tia Talley and six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ernest Nix, Robert (Ophelia) Nix; Oscar Nix; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Apr. 4, at noon at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church with Rev. Moore officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood East.
The body will lie in state after noon on Sunday, Apr. 3, with the family receiving friends from 6–7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
