Garris Wooten
A man was arrested on Monday afternoon after an attempted burglary at Rone Regency Jewelers. Garris Edward Wooten, 22, was arrested after he crashed his vehicle at Interstate 24 near Rossville Boulevard.
Chattanooga Police were called to Rone Regency Jewelers located at 1950 Gunbarrel Road Monday.
Investigators said a white male entered the store wearing a covering over his head and carrying a bucket wrapped in foil and an axe. An employee at the store confronted the suspect and demanded that he leave. The suspect raised the axe in warning, walked around the store, then quickly left, without any merchandise, in a blue Ford Ranger pick-up truck.
Someone passing by noticed the suspect leaving the store with what she said looked like a bee keeper’s face covering on his head and noticed him leaving in the truck in a reckless manner so she took a photograph.
At approximately 2:20 p.m., police located this suspect truck after it crashed on Interstate 24 at Rossville Boulevard. The suspect was apprehended nearby in the 2400 block of Rossville Boulevard.
The suspect refused to cooperate with officers but was identified as Garris Wooten. Wooten was transported to the Hamilton County jail and charged with criminal attempted aggravated robbery, driving on revoked/suspended and leaving the scene of an accident.
