Police, Family Mum About Body Found Off Youngstown Road

  • Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Police and the family of missing Dana Crumley Wilkes are mum about a body found Sunday morning off Youngstown Road.

Police spokesman Nathan Hartwig said, "In regards to the body found at 3700 Youngstown Road, we will not be giving any further statements due to the on-going investigation. Once the medical examiner’s report is complete, more information will be available which will be released at the appropriate time."

The family of Ms. Wilkes has stopped giving statements after saying on a Facebook page that the body may be hers.

Spokesman Hartwig would not confirm a streamer headline in the Chattanooga Times Free Press that the woman's head and hand had been cut off. He said, "We did not give that out."

A later online version of the story omitted the part about the severed head and hand and mentioned the finding of "partial remains."

Ms. Wilkes, 48, of Palo Verde Drive, was last seen Nov. 9.

Her Jeep Cherokee was located near the Wilcox Tunnel on Nov. 10.

The autopsy of the body was set for today at the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office.
