Johnnie Mae Babb Barnett, 91, of Dalton, Ga., died Friday, March 9, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.

Johnnie was born February 14, 1921in Dalton, a daughter of the late Luther Columbus and Estelle Gillean Babb; and was also preceded in death by her husband, William "Pete" Barnett; her loving son, Stephen Barnett; four brothers, Arvil "Tut" Babb, Laverne "Bigin" Babb, Roland Babb and Otto Babb; and two sisters, Genearl Brooker and Velma Dickerson.

She was a member of Swamp Creek Baptist Church, Charter member of the Tilton-Carbondale Homemakers Club, Silver Haired Legislature, and retired from volunteering in May 2008 from Hamilton Medical Center after 15 years of volunteering. 

She is survived by her son, Michael Barnett; daughters and son-in-law, Linda Hobbs, Anna Marie and Kennie Goss all of Dalton; grandchildren, Pete Hobbs, Lindsay Hobbs, Kelly Higgins, Allison Elrod, Diana Majors and Sandy Wilder; great-grandchildren, Isabella Hobbs, Greda Hobbs, Austin Goss, Conlan Crowe, Garrison Higgins, Rowen Majors, Bayes Wilders and Emily Elrod; and several nieces and nephews. 

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Johnnie Mae Babb Barnett will be held Sunday, March 11, at 3 p.m. at the Swamp Creek Baptist Church with Reverend George Ross officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at the Dug Gap Baptist Church Cemetery with Pete Hobbs, John Brooker, Paul Barnett, Austin Goss, Freddie Zimmerman, Marshall Babb, Conlan Crowe and Garrison Higgins Fults serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Huey Russell, Lamar Babb, Millard Acree and Billy Jones.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at the Ponders Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements.
