Joe Terry Cannon, 75, of Chattanooga, died peacefully at his home on February 10, 2013 after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ruth Brown and CL Cannon; brother, Rick Cannon and his beloved grandson, Tucker Wesley Hunt.

He is survived by his loving wife and sweetheart of 55 years, Bobbye Ann Spencer Cannon; daughter, Kim Cannon (Steve) Hunt; sons, Jeff Cannon and Terry (Deanna Duncan) Cannon; grandchildren, Spencer and Cannon Hunt, Duncan and Preston Cannon.

Joe grew up in North Chattanooga, attended Baylor Military Academy on an athletic scholarship before graduating from Chattanooga High School. Upon graduation he began a career at Combustion Engineering as an apprentice and remained there for 44 years, retiring as a vice president in 2000. Joe embraced his retirement with gusto.

Joe loved his family and friends, golf and UT football. He packed a lot of living into his 75 years. Always ready to get on the dance floor, share a drink with friends or talk shop, he never missed an opportunity to give a hug or tell his family he was proud of them.

He was a member of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, Creeks Bend and Rivermont Golf Clubs, was a prominent member of the Town and Country Garden Club, and held court every Tuesday at the Longhorn restaurant (Meatloaf Day).

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace, followed by a service at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel with Father Carter Paden officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Baylor School-Tucker Hunt Memorial Lacrosse Stadium or just hug someone you love.
