Tony Turnbow Speaks At Tennessee Sons Of The American Revolution Meeting

The Tennessee Sons of the American Revolution held their yearly meeting at the Chattanooga Marriott. The meetings were for SAR business, fellowship and awards to youth who had participated in SAR state competitions.  

The wives of the members took a bus tour of Chattanooga during the business meetings. Phyllis Carter of the Judge David Campbell DAR chapter and Pauline Moore of the Nancy Ward DAR chapter gave commentary on the various areas they visited.

Charles Dammann, president of the TNSSAR 2012-2013, passed the position to Colin D. Wakefield. Special guest at the banquet was John R. Taylor, vice president general – Southern District of the NSSAR . The state presidents of Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi attended and bought greetings from their members. The first vice president of the TSDAR bought greetings from her members.There were a number of other lineal societies present as well.

The speaker was Tony Turnbow, author, who gave a history on the building of the Natchez Trace and the difficulty that Andrew Jackson faced moving his men to New Orleans. Bagpipes and men in period dress added color to the ceremony. One of the special moments was the solemn passing of the command of the color guard. 

The award presentation was held at the luncheon. CAR winner was Benjamin Dammann of Chattanooga. The Eagle Scout Award was presented to John Russell of Tullahoma. The Knight Essay award was presented to Savannah B. Worchester, Nashville. The Joseph S. Rumbough Youth oration Award was presented to Rachel Wolters of Culleoka, Tn. The JROTC Award was presented Cadet 1st LT. Krista Burnettte of Soddy Daisy. These young people received their awards at the state level and will now be in competition at the national level.
