The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum announced the schedule for its 2013 Hiwassee River Rail excursions on Wednesday. Two excursions are running now through November out of Etowah, Tn., in
partnership with the Tennessee Overhill Heritage Association, the Hiwassee Loop & Copperhill Special.
All trips from Etowah begin at the restored L&N Depot and passengers board a short passenger shuttle before arriving at the train. The Hiwassee Loop/ is a 3 1/2 hour excursion along the scenic lower Hiwassee River Gorge where the track loops over itself as the train corkscrews up Bald Mountain near Farner, Tn.
The Copperhill Special goes over the Hiwassee Loop into Copperhill, Tn., and is an all day excursion.
"We are debuting a wonderful addition to both our Hiwassee trips this year, domed cars!" said Steve Freer, spokesperson for TVRM. "Canadian Pacific Algonquin Park has been added to our excursions and provides an elevated, panoramic view of our beautiful natural scenery. We are thrilled about this new premium seat offering."
Dome seating is limited and is $60 per person on the Hiwassee Loop and $90 on the Copperhill Special, pricing for seats in Autumn are slightly higher. The Hiwassee Loop schedule runs April 20-Nov. 22,
and the Copperhill Special is April 27-Nov. 23.
