Review for Aldo Leopold - A Standard of Change:

Set in one evening in and around the famous Wisconsin Shack that inspired much of his writing, Aldo Leopold - A Standard of Change explores the influences and challenges that led Aldo Leopold to penning his book, A Sand County Almanac.

As the lights come up, Aldo Leopold appears on the path. It has been 65 years since his death, and although his National Historic Landmark Shack is little changed, the farmland he labored to restore is hardly recognizable to him. Awaiting him are memories, surprises, challenges, and revelations. Leopold invites his audience to join him as he reacquaints himself with his beloved landscape, remembers influential friends and family, quotes from some of his most important writings, and ponders his legacy.

In the 18 months since debuting A Standard of Change at the Chattanooga Theater Center, Mr. Pfitzer has performed the play from coast to coast including three performances at Barking Legs, each time filling the house and leaving the audience wanting more.

"Every time I experience A Standard of Change, I get something new out of it. I will go see it whenever I can," says storyteller and writer Ginnie Sams who has been to a half dozen of Mr. Pfitzer’s performances.

Founded by Lisa Holt and sponsored by LifePoint Acupuncure and Oriental Medicine, Cinematters hopes to create thoughtful dialog around shared experiences with a focus on conservation, the environment, and nature. Using film, live theater, books, essays, art exhibits and and other media, Cinematters is all about a common journey--an exploration with no agenda other than dialog and self-discovery. A Standard of Change is the fourth program in the ongoing Cinematters series. and the first time Ms. Holt will use live theater as a basis for her discussion.
