EPB Alerts Customers Of Caller ID Scam

  • Tuesday, January 14, 2014

EPB is asking its customers to be aware of an ongoing nationwide utility scam using false Caller ID information.

EPB imposters are calling business customers from phones that appear on Caller ID as 648-1372 EPB. Customers are told their service will be disconnected if they don’t make immediate payment for a past due account, and are instructed to buy a reloadable debit card like MoneyPak to make payment by calling an “800” number.

This is a scam. While EPB does give courtesy calls to remind customers of past due accounts, EPB never instructs customers to make immediate payments with pre-paid debit cards.

EPB asks that customers receiving these fraudulent calls to call 423 648-1372, and press 6 to report the time and date of the call to help locate the source of the scam.

Officials said, "EPB wants to ensure all of our customer accounts and personal information remain safe."
