George Ellis
George Gus Ellis, 92, of Chattanooga, died on Thursday, May 22, 2014 in a local assisted living facility.
He was born June 11, 1921, in Chattanooga to the late Gus and Terpso Ellis.
Mr. Ellis received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Art Institute of Chicago.
He was a World War II veteran serving in Germany in the U.S. Army Intelligence. He retired from Provident Life Insurance Company after 34 years of service and later worked for Jones Printing.
Mr. Ellis was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
His sister, Helen Ellis Pinkney preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Betty Ellis; son, Steven G. Ellis and his wife Sylvia of Darnestown, Md.; and three grandchildren, Steven Andrew Ellis of Baltimore, Md.; Christopher John Ellis and Katharine Marie Ellis both of Darnestown, Md.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Father Stavros Ballas officiating. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 26, from 4-6 p.m. at the East Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial contributions be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 722 Glenwood Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37404.
