Coastal Georgia Sweeps Dalton State Volleyball

Brunswick, GA. – The Dalton State volleyball Roadrunners fell in straight sets to NAIA No. 13 Coastal Georgia (19-3, overall, 10-1 SSAC) Friday night to begin a three match road swing through Georgia.

The Roadrunner trailed throughout the first set.

Coastal Georgia broke open a 2-2 tie to go up on top 7-2.  Dalton State would pull to within one at 10-9 before the Mariners pulled away for the 25-17 set victory.

The visitors took an early and short-lived lead (2-1) in set two. The teams played close for a while. Coastal Georgia only led by one at 12-11, but the Mariners scored seven straight to take a 18-11 lead. DS pulled back to within two (19-17) before the hosts went on to win the set, 25-19.   

After a 6-6 tie in the third set, CGA outscored DS 7-1 to go ahead by six, 13-7.  The Roadrunners pulled back to within two at 24-22.  The Mariners then won the set, 25-22 and the match.

Anna Metzler each had nine kills for Dalton State. Kianna Delaney, Marta Guntin and Savannah Nelson each added six. Michala Askew had 27 assists and 12 digs. Delaney had 11 digs. Karly Newman added eight digs for the Roadrunners.

Coastal Georgia’s Regan Coughlin had a match-high 11 kills. Cayley Meiners had 36 assists. Alyssa Keeve and Kara Nelson each added 14 digs.

Dalton State volleyball (7-10 overall, 3-6 SSAC) will visit Mt. Zion, GA. Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. match against Brewton-Parker at Gillis Gymnasium. The Roadrunners will travel to Reinhardt on Monday at 4 p.m.
