Hillcrest Elementary Supports Chattanooga Area Food Bank

  • Tuesday, November 10, 2015

Twenty-eight Hillcrest Elementary faculty and staff members participated in a volunteer program to benefit the Chattanooga Area Food Bank this November. Playing off the current popularity of super-heroes, Hillcrest Elementary introduced the Hillcrest Heroes.

For $20 the faculty and staff were offered the opportunity to purchase a T-shirt to wear with jeans on Mondays during November. The proceeds from the shirts, which are in excess of $300, will be donated to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.

The Food Bank was chosen this month because during the holidays and winter months many people rely on it to help provide or supplement meals. Many of the school's students and their families benefit year round from the food bank.

Vonetta Maston, principal of Hillcrest Elementary and Jane Phillips, assistant principal of Hillcrest Elementary, said they were thrilled with the response that Hillcrest Heroes received from the faculty and staff.  Because of its success, Hillcrest Heroes will continue monthly with additional local agencies receiving support.
