Fulmer And Richt

  • Tuesday, December 1, 2015
So Randy Smith compares Fulmer's firing seven years ago to UGA firing Mark Richt the day after the Georgia Tech game? As with most of the Fulmerites, Randy is long on rhetoric and short on facts. There is no comparison in the two situations.

Fulmer had gone 29-21 in his last four seasons with two losing records. Richt has gone 39-13 in his last four seasons with no losing records. In addition, Fulmer's four losses to Alabama and Florida in 2007-08 were by a combined 159-52 and he was a combined 1-8 against Saban and Urban Meyer. The decision to fire Fulmer was a no-brainer, unfortunately we also had a no-brainer as an Athletic Director, who hired Kiffin and Dooley to replace him.

We will not know for three years if the decision to replace Mark Richt was the correct one. As we found out at UT hiring a new football coach is a crap-shoot. But Georgia has a lot more downside risk than UT did seven years ago.
