Dr. Bill Effler’s latest book, “Out From the Shadows, Biblical Counseling Revealed in the Story of Creation,” has been released through WestBow Press.

“Shadows,” for Dr. Effler, showcases a biblical and practical eight-step process whereby counselors empower their clients to break free from chronic and debilitating lifestyle choices.

One clinical director described Dr. Effler’s book as a “psychological and spiritual searchlight for persons wishing to pursue previously unexplored areas of pain and disappointment.”

Dr. Effler’s goal is to convey hope and encouragement to the reader by way of extensive research, compelling case studies, practical direction, and his family’s personal story of “shadow-warfare.” His desire is that those who may be blindsided in a season of darkness will recognize the light that leads toward health and ultimately, home.

“Playing on the imagery of light and shadows, Dr. Effler brings clarity to the arena of pastoral counseling by examining God’s interaction with the created world described in Genesis,” said Dr. Terry Cross, dean of Lee’s School of Religion. “‘Out From the Shadows’ engages readers with its personal tone while providing pertinent information about the field of pastoral counseling.”

“Combining scholarly precision, clinical experience, and spiritual insight, ‘Out from the Shadows’ is an indispensable resource for all those engaged in pastoral and professional counseling as well as anyone who longs to heal a hurting heart,” said Kevin Wallace, senior pastor at Redemption Point Church in Ooltewah.

Dr. Effler joined Lee University’s School of Religion in 2001 and currently serves as associate professor of pastoral studies. Prior to coming to Lee, he spent 18 years in pastoral ministry and has also served as a residential and private practice counselor.

“Out From the Shadows” is Dr. Effler’s third book. His other books include “Turning the Church Inside Out” and “The Mission of the Church: Essays on Practical Theology for the 21st Century,” for which he was a contributor and the general editor.

Dr. Effler’s book is available for purchase at the campus bookstore and through Westbow Publishing.
