8th Annual David Viens Blood And Marrow Drive Set For May 2

  • Monday, April 13, 2015
The 8th annual blood and marrow drive in memory of Signal Mountain resident David Viens will take place on Saturday, May 2.  Signal Crest United Methodist Church, 1005 Ridgeway Ave., will host the blood drive in the Fellowship hall from 8:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Free food, prizes and t-shirts will be given away. Be the Match representatives will be on site to help people join the marrow registry.

Mr. Viens passed away in 2008 from complications after receiving a stem cell transplant while fighting chronic lymphocytic leukemia for 5 years.
"David, a loving husband and father, went to Signal Crest UMC and was a volunteer at Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services," organizers said.

To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. The process usually takes about 30 minutes and includes a complimentary snack. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids - avoiding caffeine - and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating. Your one donation can save three lives.
