Dalton State Cheerleading In Competition Mode

The Dalton State Cheer Squad is working hard toward the NCA Collegiate Championship, which begins Thursday (April 9) in Daytona Beach, FL.

“Dalton State Cheerleading has grown from just ideas, goals and dreams to NCA College Nationals in just two short years,” said Coach Robyn Pursley. Two years ago, Dalton State Cheerleading had just begun to sign a handful of athletes. Those athletes built a strong foundation last year.  This year we are stepping on the competition floor at NCA Nationals at  Daytona Beach.”

Fresh off of a trip to Kansas City to support Dalton State basketball’s National Championship run, it is now time for the cheerleaders to take the spotlight.

“I could not be more proud of the Roadrunner cheer program and thankful for every difficult moment that brought our team to where we are,” said Pursley.

“We have an athletics department, school, community and Athletic Directors who believe in what we do as coaches, students and athletes. Without that support, we would not be able to be the cheerleading program we are today.”

Most of the college cheerleading squads from the country are scheduled to compete in the event. Dalton State will compete in the NAIA Small Cooed Division. The Roadrunners will begin with a performance at the Daytona Beach Cheer Band Shell at 12:26 p.m. on Thursday.

The Challenge Cup will take place on Thursday evening between 4:13 p.m. and 5:09 p.m. The finals will be held on Friday, April 10 between 9:51 a.m. and 10:47 a.m.

Dalton State Cheerleading is opening up this Monday’s practice as a send-off for the team. Dalton State fans, parents and students are invited to the 6 p.m. practice at Bandy Gymnasium on the Dalton State campus.

“We may be a fresh program, but we are growing bigger, faster and stronger as each year comes,” Pursley reflects. “My hope is that our Roadrunner Cheerleaders will take these memories with them throughout their lives.”
