After graduation, he was employed by an engineering group in Alabama. While employed, World War II began and he enlisted in the Coast Guard. He patrolled the East Coast of the United States and was eventually ordered overseas to participate in the D-Day Invasion. He and his crew members were the lead vessel in guiding the landing crafts ashore at Utah Beach. When that had been done, they were ordered to and patrolled as search, rescue and recovery at all beaches. After the war, he returned to Scottsboro and began working at Stone and Webster. He later moved to Chattanooga and worked for Combustion Engineering  for almost forty years before retiring as the drafting department supervisor.  During that time he joined the Tennessee National Guard, 181st Batallion, Field Artillery.  Arthur had a love of animals, farming and ranching. He was a very kind and giving man, coaching youth sports, as a scout master, president of the Fort Oglethorpe Lions Club and on the board of the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Athletic Club.  He was an avid Alabama supporter.  ROLL TIDE!
