Ernest Battle, 73, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, October 7, 2016 at his residence.

He was a member of Greater Faith Temple Baptist Church.  He was retired from the Crane Company where he was employed many years as a machine operator.  

He was preceded in death by his parents Josh and Willie Battle; brother, William Battle; sisters, Pauline Willinham and Alma Smith; and son-in-law, Charles Hitchcock.  

Survivors include his devoted wife of 48 years, Charlene Battle; son, Ernest Battle, Jr., of Chattanooga; daughters, Marilyn (David) McKissick, Inez Green (Reginald), Roxann Battle, Selene Battle-Hitchcock, and Darlene Battle, all of Chattanooga; brothers, Franklin Battle and Troy (Brenda) Battle; sisters, Bernice Gardenhire and Winifred Slay, all of Chattanooga; father-in-law, Isaac Murphy and brother-in-law, William Clay, both of Chattanooga; sisters-in-law, Dollie (Ronald) Montgomery and Gwendolyn Murphy, of Chattanooga; and Irma Dews, of Baltimore, MD; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 6-8 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.  

Funeral services will be on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel.  

Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
