McCallie School Hosting 2016 TAIS Biennial Conference Sunday And Monday On Campus

Approximately 1,400 educators and administrators from across Tennessee will be on the campus of McCallie School for the 2016 Tennessee Association of Independent Schools Biennial Conference Nov. 6-7. This conference brings together some of the top independent school leaders for two days to share best practices and learn new strategies for keeping independent schools vibrant and innovative for the future.

The conference will open Sunday with a keynote address by educational expert and author Rick Wormeli speaking on Cultivating Personal Creativity in Teachers and Students.

Monday will feature three TED Talks and breakout sessions with educational leaders from around the nation:

? Tom Hoerr : The Big Five Success Skills Students Will Need

? Ross Wehner :The Global Education Crisis And What It Means for Independent Schools

? Andy Van Schaack : The Failed Promises of Educational Technology and Why This Future Will Be Different

In addition conference will feature 260 instructional sessions by 315 presenters on topics of interest in all areas of independent schools, and 34 vendors will be set up to show off the latest equipment and services available to teachers.

Sunday night will feature an awards dinner at the Chattanoogan Hotel where the Hubert Smothers and Sawney Webb awards will be presented to the state’s top independent school teachers and administrators. This year’s winners are:

McCallie is excited to host the 2016 TAIS Biennial Conference and welcome so many inspiring teachers and leaders.

“McCallie has been a proud member of TAIS for many years, and we are proud to be able to host this event on our campus,” said McCallie Headmaster Lee Burns ‘87. “We have so many outstanding independent schools in this state, and our faculty is looking forward to a chance to meet with our colleagues from other schools to share insights and innovations that can benefit all of our students.”

The Tennessee Association of Independent Schools is a voluntary association of 56 schools located throughout the state of Tennessee. It is a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors, all of whom are currently serving as Headmasters of TAIS schools.
