Whitfield County Fire Department Employee To Possibly Be Fired For Unauthorized Use Of Fire Hydrant

  • Wednesday, May 4, 2016

The Whitfield County Fire Department has reviewed the allegation of an unauthorized use of a fire hydrant by an off-duty employee in April.

Fire Chief  Edward O’Brien said in a statement, "The investigation revealed that the allegations were substantially accurate and the department will not tolerate this conduct from a fire department employee, especially an experienced one.

“Trust and good judgment are crucial aspects of a firefighter’s role and both have been severely compromised.”

The department has proposed termination of employment in accordance with the Whitfield County Merit Policy.

The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners and the county administrator support Chief O’Brien's investigation, findings, and conclusion in this matter.
