Chattanooga Opens Key Series Saturday At Home Against Mississippi

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Chattanooga Lookouts broke a 1-1 tie with three seventh-inning runs, and won a 4-2 series finale over the Jacksonville Suns in front of a season-high 7,873 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The Lookouts are now 69-61 overall. They are 33-25 in the second half, 2.0 games behind Montgomery, and 2.5 games behind Jackson with ten games remaining in the regular season

Felix Jorge put together arguably his best start since joining the Lookouts.

The right-hander went seven innings and gave up just two runs on six hits. He walked none and struck out three. Luke Bard gave up one hit in a scoreless eighth inning. He struck out one.

Zack Jones recorded his second save and dropped his ERA to 1.80 with a one-hit, scoreless ninth frame. 

The Suns took the game's first lead in the third inning against Lookouts right-hander Felix Jorge (2-4). Center fielder Kenny Wilson hit a leadoff single to center field and went to second base on a wild pitch. Second baseman Garrett Weber grounded a one-out RBI single into left field for a 1-0 lead.

Suns kept the lead until two outs in the sixth inning. Lookouts right fielder Edgar Corcino, left fielder Travis Harrison and catcher Stuart Turner hit consecutive singles for the first Chattanooga run.

In a 1-1 tie, Suns right-hander Travis Ballew (1-1) began the seventh inning by hitting designated hitter Tanner Witt, who stole second base and went to third base on a wild pitch that put second baseman Levi Michael at first base after a strikeout. Center fielder Zach Granite hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly, Ballew hit shortstop Engelb Vielma with a pitch, and third baseman Niko Goodrum hit an infield single to load the bases. Ballew then walked Corcino and hit Harrison to force in two more runs for a 4-1 Chattanooga lead. 

Suns right fielder Alex Glenn hit a solo home run to right field off Jorge in the seventh inning to close the deficit to 4-2. 

Lookouts right-handers Luke Bard and Zack Jones each pitched scoreless innings, with Jones earning his second save.

Goodrum went 2-for-5 with his seventh double. Turner went 2-for-4. Corcino and Vielma each went 1-for-3 with a walk,and was also hit by a pitch. Harrison who was 1-for-2 with a walk.

The Lookouts open their final homestand Saturday night against the South Division leading Mississippi Braves. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
