Gertie Virginia Medley Floyd, 76, of Flintstone, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 7, 2017. She has been a resident of Flintstone since 1975, and was a member of the Chattanooga Valley Church of The Nazarene. Gertie retired in 2002 after many years in retail sales and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, who will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Emitt and Isabell Rust Medley; son, Bobby Joe Swann; and several sisters and brothers.
Gertie is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Billy Floyd; children, David R. Swann of Flintstone, Barry N. (Terri) Floyd of Harriman, Tn. and Kate F. Vaughn of Flintstone; sisters, Mavis Matlock of Hillsboro, Tn. and Marie Winton of Manchester, Tn.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, Dec. 11 at Chattanooga Valley Church of The Nazarene, with Pastor Jon Bemis officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, 2-5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and lie in state from 11 a.m. until the service time on Monday at the church.
