It was 1974 and American tennis was on top of the world with U.S. players winning three of the four grand slam singles titles for both men and women.

Closer to home, four Chattanooga area businessmen - Fred Broadhust, Tommy White, Ken Henry and Raymond Stakley - served as the original owners as the club provided local tennis players an excellent place to play as the quartet opened the Hixson Racquet Club February 1974.

The club has served a purpose to the tennis community for more than four decades with  indoor and outdoor courts, league and  individual play, along with locker rooms and on site teaching pros for lessons.

Current owner J.L..Hawkins has sold the club and will close the doors as a tennis facility on August 31.
