Cleveland State Basketball Starts Conference Play At 0-2

Cleveland State's Men's Basketball team had an action packed weekend as they opened up conference play, facing Dyersburg State Community College on Friday and Southwest Tennessee Community College on Saturday.

The first game of two, the Cougars lost to Dyersburg by a score of 80-73. The two teams went at it, tying the game up multiple times. The Cougars were trailing, 22-24 with five minutes to go in the first half. By the time half rolled around, the Cougars had charged back to a 37-33 lead. The second half again saw the two teams fire back and forth at each other but Dyersburg ended up pulling away. With about three minutes to go Dyersburg State had extended their lead by ten points, winning the game by a 80-73 final.

The second game for the Cougars saw a much lower score. Cleveland State eventually lost, 57-48. The first tie of the game came at 14 points a piece, then the Cougars pushed to take a 19-18 lead over Southwest Tennessee. Southwest pushed back and took a single point, 24-23 lead into the half. Starting the second half, Southwest Tennessee went on a 6-0 run. The Cougars answered right back going on a 5-0 run themselves, pushing the score to 30-28 against Southwest. From that point onward, Southwest Tennessee held their lead consistently, pushing their total up to 46 before winning the game with a 57-48 final score.

The Cougars are now 2-4 (0-2) on the season and will look to right the ship on Tuesday as they take on Snead State Community College at home at 7:30 PM.
